LUU Dance Band

The Leeds University Union Dance Band was formed in 1987 as part of the Leeds University Union Music Society (LUUMS). In the 21 years since its formation it has moved from its humble beginnings to an independent fully functioning semi-professional band gigging around Leeds, and the wider Yorkshire area.

This 22 piece Big Band auditions for members at the beginning of the University year every September and plucks the Best Jazz Players from the University to play with us for the forthcoming year.

The Band will audition any Student from Leeds University from ‘Buck Toothed’ Dentists to Book Grabbing English Students. The band rehearses every week on a Tuesday and gigs around Leeds, West Yorkshire and the wider area.

The band has flourished since it began and now performs at private functions and publicly organised gigs in some of Leeds most prestigious jazz venues including The Wardrobe and HiFi.

In 2009, the Band saw off some fierce competition at the Great North Big Band Jazz festival, by winning the Best overall band and the Best Soloist (George Millard, 1st Tenor)

The Band is available to be booked for private functions such as Weddings, Balls, Birthday parties, Funerals or Anything else that you may need us for. So don’t hesitate to contact us!

Each year the Band takes a pilgrimage tour to Villereal near Bergerac in the South of France, which is highlight for the band and a great chance for the members to really get to know each other… Whilst in France, we also perform at some venues ranging from charity concerts to Pizzerias.
